Stocks also known as equities are securities that give people shared ownership of a company. Stocks are acquired for capital appreciation and dividends. 

There are many different kinds of stocks from growth stocks, income stocks, value stocks to even blue-chip stocks. These are just one way of categorizing them among many others. Purchasing stock can vary on the intended purpose of the purchase depending on which category it is bought from. 

With stocks, there are many benefits, such as gaining capital appreciation which has one of the highest growth percentages over the long haul and not to mention dividends as well. However, there are risks to every investment with stocks that means when purchasing and owning shares, if the company loses value and stock price falls the owner of the stocks purchased can lose money.
